Wells Gray Explorer

At 09:00 register at the Wells Gray Guest Ranch front desk and meet your guide and fellow travellers. After double checking and loading the equipment begin your canoeing adventure. Stopping at the Green Mountain lookout tower you can clearly see how the landscape has been modeled by volcanoes and glaciers. Continue on to visit Dawson Falls (“Little Niagara”) and finally reach the southern tip of Clearwater Lake. Your guide will give you an extensive introduction into paddling techniques and environmental etiquette. Heading north along the untouched shoreline of Clearwater Lake, the group paddles for 2 to 4 hours to a beautiful camp site equipped with a fire pit, outhouse, bear proof food containers and picnic tables. Setting up camp, enjoy dinner and a first night under the stars. Lunch and dinner included. Overnight tent camping at Clearwater Lake.

Today explore Clearwater Lake by canoe, often staying close to shore to try and spot the local wildlife. The views of Mount Huntley and Garnet Peak are stunning and a constant backdrop throughout the day. Weather permitting, a one hour hike leads to “Eagle’s View” and a beautiful vista over Clearwater Lake. Paddle back to the campsite and enjoy another dinner by the fire and the serene waters of the lake. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included. Overnight tent camping at Clearwater Lake.

After breakfast, paddle back to the boat launch, unload the canoes and take a short transfer to Bailey’s Chute. In August this is the best spot along the Clearwater River to watch the salmon jumping. Afterwards, visit majestic Helmcken Falls and admire the powerful waters plunging 140m deep into an impressive lava canyon. Your memorable adventure ends with your return to Wells Gray Guest Ranch at 16:30. Breakfast and lunch included.
