Located off the northernmost tip of Newfoundland, Quirpon is the province’s best location for viewing icebergs as the Labrador Current carries them south. Quirpon Island boasts the longest iceberg-viewing season in Newfoundland, with the last melting in the fall during a good year. Whales are constant companions off the shores of Quirpon, often coming close enough to the rocks to be touched. Whale experts ascribe this phenomenon to the underwater topography and ample food supply. In addition to Humbacks and Minke - the presence of which is virtually inevitable - you may spot as many as 27 more species, including Orca, which are being spotted with increasing frequency around Quirpon Island despite becoming a rarer sight elsewhere in Newfoundland.

Located on the northern tip of Newfoundland, independently arrive in the small village of Quirpon at the dock by 16:00. After being picked up at the Quirpon Municipal dock at the prearranged time, depart Quirpon on a scenic transfer by Zodiac boat through Iceberg Alley. Arrive at the docks of the inn and a warm welcome from the innkeepers. Dinner included. Overnight at Quirpon Lighthouse Inn.

Nights spent in this working lighthouse are just the beginning of the adventure on Quirpon Island. Hiking trails branch out from the inn, following the coastline or delving inland over the rocky terrain. The comfortable observation lounge gives a front row seat for the Humpback and Minke whales that feed in the waters just off the shoreline and can often be seen breaching the waves, coming crashing down into the water again. In the spring, icebergs gently float by, providing a spectacle unique in the world. A Zodiac tour of Iceberg Alley and the shoreline of the island showcase the rugged coastlines and some of the animals that live and thrive there. For the adventurous, optional guided hikes, flightseeing, kayaking and Zodiac tours may be booked (on-site at additional cost) to reveal the secrets of the land and sea on interactive experiences.
